McDonald’s may feel like the same golden arches everywhere you go, but if you step inside an international location, things start to get interesting. The fast-food giant lets countries tweak the menu to reflect local tastes, and some of those changes are downright brilliant.

Here's a look at 15 global McDonald's items that should definitely hop the next flight to the U.S.

Teriyaki McBurger (Japan)

The Teriyaki McBurger is a long-standing favorite in Japan. It features a juicy pork patty coated in glossy teriyaki sauce, finished with lettuce and lemon mayo on a sesame seed bun. It’s a clever play on Japanese-American fusion.

McSpicy Paneer (India)

Vegetarians in India don’t settle for side salads. The McSpicy Paneer has a thick slice of paneer cheese, breaded and fried, and layered with spicy tandoori mayo and lettuce. It’s cheesy and doesn’t try to mimic meat, which is precisely what makes it satisfying.

Le Ricche Cheese & Bacon Fries (Italy)

McDonald’s Italy takes its fries seriously by topping them with hot cheddar cheese sauce and chunks of smoky bacon. It’s simple, indulgent, and honestly overdue in U.S. McDonald’s, where loaded fries are still more of a local promotion than a menu mainstay.

Ebi Filet-O (Japan)

Japan’s take on a seafood sandwich skips the usual fish fillet. The Ebi Filet-O uses shrimp, mashed into a patty, tempura-battered, and fried. It’s been a fan favorite since 2005 and is designed for people who actually like seafood.

Tres Leches McFlurry (Venezuela)

Instead of candy mix-ins, Venezuela pulls inspiration from tres leches cake. It combines soft serve with sponge cake chunks, dulce de leche, and a dusting of cinnamon. The item’s definitely way more interesting than another round of Oreos.

Bulgogi Burger (South Korea)

South Korea turned one of its signature dishes into drive-thru food with the Bulgogi Burger. The patty is coated in sweet soy-garlic marinade, which gives that unmistakable bulgogi flavor. Add mayo and lettuce, and you’ve got something that tastes like Korean BBQ in a bun.

Croque McDo (France)

France skipped the burger bun altogether with this one. The Croque McDo is their version of a ham-and-cheese sandwich, made with toasted bread, melted Swiss, and thin slices of ham. It’s closer to café fare than fast food, and somehow still fits the McDonald’s vibe.

McMolletes (Mexico)

McMolletes are surprisingly hearty, with muffin halves, refried beans, melted cheese, and a spoonful of fresh pico de gallo. They’re fast, filling, and vegetarian without trying too hard. McDonald’s Mexico leans into regional breakfast, and this one deserves a test run in the U.S.

McPinto Deluxe (Costa Rica)

The McPinto Deluxe includes gallo pinto (a mix of black beans and rice), scrambled eggs, sausage, tortillas, and fried plantains. It’s a fast-food breakfast that leans more traditional than trendy. Compared to the usual biscuit-and-hashbrown fare, this looks like a complete meal.

Taro Pie (China)

Forget apple—in parts of Asia, McDonald’s serves taro pies. The flaky crust holds a purple, slightly sweet taro filling that’s nutty and earthy. These pies are popular in China, Taiwan, and sometimes Hawaii. The U.S. pie lineup could use this change of pace. Besides, who doesn’t want to eat a purple dessert?

McFalafel (Egypt)

McDonald’s Egypt took a local favorite and turned it into a wrap. The McFalafel uses fava bean patties seasoned with herbs and spices, then loads them up with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and tahini inside a tortilla. It’s a plant-based meal with real heft, and it shames American vegetarian items.

Roasted Soy Sauce Double Beef Burger (Japan)

This burger brings double beef, cheese, and a thick roasted soy glaze. It was originally part of a limited-edition Samurai series, but became so popular in Japan that it earned a permanent spot. The umami is strong, and the flavor is bold.

Chocolate Lava Pudding (New Zealand)

This is proof that desserts don’t need to be over-the-top to be memorable—just molten. The Chocolate Lava Pudding comes as a small cake filled with warm and gooey chocolate sauce. One scoop of soft serve on top, and it’s practically a fast-food sundae upgrade.

Wacko Guaco Burger (Belgium)

Wacko Guaco focuses on fresh toppings, including cheddar, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo, and crispy onions. It started with a chicken version, but is now available with beef or vegetarian patties.

Tasty Basket (Italy)

Italy offers a shareable snack box called the Tasty Basket. It includes chicken nuggets, wings, dipping sauces, and something you don’t expect: panzerotti—small, cheese-filled pastries similar to mini calzones. It’s hard to imagine why this hasn’t caught on in the U.S.
